Carter-Ricks Funeral Homes Phone 573-898-2181 / Fax 573-898-3148 Newspaper Notice of Death Anita Catherine Callaway Funeral services for Anita Catherine Callaway of Troy, MO, formerly of Elsberry, MO, were held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 17, 2006 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Paul Garvin, pastor of the Elsberry United Methodist Church in Elsberry, officiated with burial in Elsberry City Cemetery in Elsberry, MO. Serving as pallbearers were Bill Whitehead, Jeff Whitehead, Jim Hancock, Mike Grau and Michael Grau. Mrs. Callaway, 88, died Tuesday evening, August 15, 2006 at the Troy Manor in Troy. Born January 25, 1918 in Ethelyn, MO, she was the daughter of John Theodore and Emma Marie Elizabeth Edinger Strus. She was united in marriage on September 4, 1948 in Arkansas to James "Bush" Herbert Callaway. Mrs. Callaway was blessed with two daughters: Edna and Anita. Mrs. Callaway obtained her G.E.D. during her later years. She was employed for many years as a meat wrapper at Elsberry IGA, retiring in 1982. She was a member of Local #655 and served on the Cannon Foundation Scholarship Board for many years. She was also a former member of Rebekahs, where she held many offices and was eventually installed in the district. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Emma Strus; one brother, George Strus; two sisters: Ella Weeks and Freda Watts; one daughter, Edna Marie Brooksher; and her beloved husband of 39 years, James Callaway who passed away January 21, 1988. Survivors include one daughter, Anita Whitehead and her husband, Bill, of O'Fallon, MO; three grandchildren: Lori Hancock and her husband, Jim, Jeff Whitehead and his wife, Lisa and Gina Grau and her husband, Mike; six great-grandchildren: Emily and Olivia Hancock, Billy Whitehead, Joshua and Rachel Franklin and Michael Grau; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. Visitation was held from 10:00 until time of service, Thursday, August 17, 2006 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Memorials may be made to Joseph R.
