Funeral services for Clara Virginia Foster of Foley, MO were held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 6, 2006 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Richard Turnbull of Winfield, MO officiated with burial in the Star Hope Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Andrew Brown, Jeremy Barron, Greg Less, Cindy Less, Jennie Green, Julie Less, Clinton Foster, Clay Foster and Hannah Foster. Honorary pallbearers were Alex Brown and Nicholas Foster.
Mrs. Foster, 79, died Sunday afternoon, December 3, 2006 at her home near Foley. Born May 26, 1927 in New Canton, IL, she was the daughter of the Raymond W. and Etta Amy Miller Kurfman. She was a 1945 graduate of Elsberry High School in Elsberry, MO. She was united in marriage on March 1, 1947 in St. Charles, MO to Ralph Wesley Foster. This union was blessed with six children: Elaine, Lorraine, Dennis, Joe, Kevin and Kim. In the 1960's through 1970's, she was employed as a slicer at Monsanto in St. Peters, MO. She then was employed for several years as a dietary aide at the Elsberry Healthcare Center in Elsberry, retiring in 1989. She was a member of the Foley Baptist Church in Foley, MO. She was a well known seamstress for the local garment industry for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Etta Kurfman; four sisters: Gladys Jourdan, Mary West, Annalu Sutton and Ruby Thelma Kurfman, who died at a young age; four brothers: Owen Kurfman, Russell Kurfman, Lendell Kurfman and Emil Kurfman; two sons who were stillborn: Steven Wesley Foster, who died in 1949 and Raymond Louis Foster, who died in 1958; and her beloved husband of 55 years, Ralph Foster who died December 15, 2002.
Survivors include three sons: Dennis Foster and his wife, Debbie, of Elsberry, Joe Foster of Mendon, IL and Kevin Foster of Foley; three daughters: Elaine Barron and her husband, Jerry, of Elsberry, Lorraine Less and her husband, Michael, of Downers Grove, IL and Kim Brown and her husband, Greg, of Oswego, IL; and twelve grandchildren. She also leaves one brother, Wayne Kurfman and his wife, Mary, of Elsberry; one sister, Nina Fuller of Peoria, IL; three sisters-in-law: Mildree Ross and her husband, Chester, of Elsberry, Marian Foster and Martha "Goldie" Foster, both of Foley; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 5, 2005 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Memorials may be given to the SSM Hospice or to the Joseph R.
