Obituary of Richard Joseph Metz, Jr.

Memorial Services for Richard Joseph Metz, Jr. of Washington, MO, formerly of Foley, MO will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, August 27, 2023 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield, MO. Inurnment will be in Whispering Winds Cemetery near Winfield at a later date. Rich, 53, passed away early Wednesday morning, July 19, 2023 at his home. Born Febraury 13, 1970 in St. Louis, MO, he was the son of Richard Joseph and Shirley Ann Scharf Metz, Sr. Rich earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Lindenwood University in St. Charles, MO. Rich was united in marriage on August 1, 1992 in St. Paul, MO to Jennifer Lynn Obrecht. This union was blessed with three children: Reed, Grace and Finnigan. He worked as Branch Manager and Vice President for Commerce Bank and currently as Branch Manager and Vice President for Sullivan Bank in Labadie, MO. Richard was an active member of the Washington Rotary and long standing Board Member of Compass Health. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Shirley Metz, Sr.; and his daughter, Grace Metz, who died on June 28, 2019. Survivors include his beloved wife of nearly 31 years, Jennifer Metz of Washington; and two sons: Reed Metz of Pennsylvania and Finnigan Metz of Washington, MO. Rich also leaves one sister, Cynthia Hruby and her husband, Andrew, of Illinois; several in-laws, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of Memorial Services at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 27, 2023 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers or houseplants, memorials may be made to Compass Health ( https://forms.donorsnap.com/form?id=b7d91b17-41dd-478f-9f41-783ff0f22485 ) to help teens and young adults receive the mental healthcare they need.
