Obituary of Dan East

Dan East, 74, of St. Anthony, Mo died at 4:04 am Sunday, March 31, 2024, at St Mary’s Hospital in Jefferson City, Mo from cancer after a courageous fight dedicated to his grandchildren. Dan was born in Carthage, Mo on September 13, 1949, to the late Lt. William and Pauline (Sitton) East of Apex Missouri. On June 25, 1977, at their small farm near Faucett, Mo, Dan was united in marriage to the late Beverly East. Dan and Bev celebrated 35 years of loving marriage on June 25, 2012, before her sudden passing on February 12, 2013. From that day forward, Dan never traveled without his treasured framed photo of her. Dan grew up and spent his first 16 years in Carthage, Mo. His family moved in 1966 to Jefferson City where he graduated from Jefferson City High School in 1967. He cherished his childhood Carthage classmates and to this day remained close. He was drafted and served in the 25th Infantry Division in Vietnam in 1969. Upon returning with the GI bill, he graduated with an engineering degree from the University of Missouri. He worked for Whitaker Cable in Kansas City where he met his wife, Bev. Dan and Bev returned to Jefferson City in 1979 and welcomed their son, David, in October 1980. In April 1984, they welcomed their daughter, Terrie. Dan retired from the Department of Natural Resources in 2006. Dan and Bev moved to a small farm near St. Anthony in 2006. Dan loved laboring over their beautiful farm where he and Bev raised (pet) chickens and cows. Dan and Bev deeply loved and cared for their community of St Anthony. Dan was known by those nearest to him for his many interests; motorcycles (he owned his first in 1964), old engines, farming, canoeing, old cars (he restored 6) but his family was his passion. He liked to tell others that his life exceeded all his wildest expectations but most of all he reveled in his children’s successes. Dan is survived by his two children: David East, son, of Jefferson City along with his wife, Angie, and their son, Mason; Terrie Ware, daughter, of Bolivar along with her husband, Jeremy, and their two daughters Madelyn and Olivia; Doris (Vanhooser) Gaub of Crocker, Bev’s Mother; and one brother, Doug East. He was preceded in death by Beverly East, his wife; Bill East, Father; Pauline East, Mother; William Burger, Uncle; Virginia Burger, Aunt. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, April 6 at Star Hope Cemetery in Elsberry, Mo. Rev Randy Germann, a family friend, will officiate.
