Obituary of Michael Eugene Spies

Funeral Services for Michael Eugene Spies of Elsberry, MO will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 15, 2024 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. J. Larry Carter of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry will officiate with burial in Elsberry City Cemetery in Elsberry. Serving as pallbearers will be Bradley Turnbull, Caleb Spies, Cameron Michaels, Jamie Momphard, Jesse Evans and Jason Evans. Michael, 64, passed away Wednesday morning, April 10, 2024 at his home. Born December 31, 1959 in St. Charles, MO, he was the son of Edward Eugene Spies and Loretta Martin Spies. Michael was united in marriage on January 15, 1983 in Elsberry to Virginia Rose Marie Sinclair. This union was blessed with three children: Michael, Gina and Mikka. Michael worked as a production worker for Bodine, retiring in June 2021. He enjoyed gardening and taking care of cats. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Stephen Spies in 1998 and Rick Spies in 2018; and one sister, Rebecca Timms in 2020. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Virginia Spies of Elsberry; their children: Michael Spies and his wife, Jodie, of Elsberry, Gina Spies of Troy, MO and Mikka Turnbull and her husband, Bradley, also of Troy; and two grandchildren: Melanie “Skyler” and Alexander. Michael also leaves his parents Gene Spies and his wife, Jane, of Elsberry and Loretta Spies of Elsberry; one brother, Mark Spies of Foley, MO; one half-brother, Caleb Spies of Elsberry; one step-sister, Kerry Banaszek of Elsberry; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of Funeral Services at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 15, 2024 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home.
