Obituary of Clara Selma Lawhorn

Clara Selma Lawhorn Funeral services for Clara Selma Lawhorn of Elsberry, MO will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. J. Larry Carter of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home will officiate with burial in the Elsberry City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Jason Knox, Payne Powelson, Price Powelson, Jeff Cohoon, Chas Cohoon and Darrell Bruce. Mrs. Lawhorn, 92, passed away Sunday morning, March 30, 2008 at the Elsberry Health Care Center near Elsberry. Born July 14, 1915 in Sarepta, MS, she was the daughter of Hughie Jackson and Emma Waits Bond. She was united in marriage on March 26, 1938 in Mississippi County, AR to Hershel Joshua Lawhorn. This union was blessed with one daughter, Carol. Mrs. Lawhorn worked for several years as a cook in the cafeteria at the Elsberry R-2 Schools. She enjoyed ceramics and playing cards. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hughie and Emma Bond; eleven siblings; and her beloved husband of 64 years, Hershel Lawhorn, who died December 27, 2002. Survivors include her daughter, Carol Herring Potts and her husband, Ernie, of Foley, MO; two grandchildren: Jeff Cohoon and his wife, Janie, of Elsberry, and Teresa Bruce and her husband, Darrell, of O'Fallon, MO; two step-grandchildren: Jay Herring and his wife, Sally, of Elsberry, and Jerry Herring and his wife, Margie; five great-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until time of the service at 3:00 p.m. at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
