Obituary of Alfred Herman Meier

Funeral Services for Alfred Herman "Hoppy" Meier of Winfield, MO, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Old Monroe, MO. Rev. Eugene Rahmeier of Moscow Mills, Mo and Rev. Don Bizer, Interim Minister of St. Paul United Church of Church, will officiate with burial in St. Paul UCC Cemetery in Old Monroe. Serving as pallbearers will be Dick Callaway, Paul Krieg, Wayne Krieg, Jeff Thomas, Allen Hyde and Neal Keeteman. Honorary Pallbearers will be Paul Freese, Tim Cappel and Cory Hyde. Mr. Meier, 85, passed away early Saturday morning, April 19, 2008 at the Winfield Residential Care Center. Born July 19, 1922 in Winfield he was the son of Louie and Lydia Wilke Meier. He was united in marriage on December 2, 1944 in Old Monroe to Helen Lauretta Massie. This union was blessed with four children: Joyce Elaine, Linda Lou, Ricky Lee and Janet Louise. Mr. Meier was employed for many years as a hydro press operator at McDonnell Douglas, retiring in 1982. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ. He was a member of WINCO and was a driver for meals on wheels for 17 years. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 43 years, Helen Meier who died August 9, 1988; his parents, Louie and Lydia Meier; three sisters: Dorothy Callaway, Elsie Meier and Irene Krieg; and one son-in-law, John Drown. Survivors include one son, Ricky Meier of Winfield; three daughters: Joyce Thomas, Linda Meier, and Janet Drown all of Winfield; three grandchildren: Lauretta Thomas, Tara Hyde and her husband, Allen, and Jeff Thomas and his wife, Mandy; four great-grandchildren: Courtney Emily, Cory Hyde, Noah Thomas and Cody Hyde. He also leaves two sisters: Ella Cappel of St. Charles and Berniece Callaway and her husband, Richard, of St. Charles; one brother-in-law, Oliver "Monk" Callaway also of St. Charles; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He also leaves his special companion, Verna Brooks of Winfield. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield.
