Obituary of Alfred W. Masterson

Funeral Services for Alfred "Monk" Warren Masterson of Foley, MO, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield, MO. Rev. Richard Turnbull of Winfield will officiate with burial in Corinth Cemetery near Foley. Serving as pallbearers will be 2nd Lieutenant Robert Howard, Lucas Masterson, Matthew Johnsen, Steven Coy, William Boettcher, James Boettcher and Kyle Boettcher. Honorary Pallbearers will be Adam Masterson, Krista Masterson, William Penn, Larry Penn, J.H. "Hick" Stonebraker, Craig Stonebraker, Herschel Tiller, Tom Wray and Philip Suddarth. Mr. Masterson, 89, passed away early Thursday morning, April 17, 2008 at his home in Foley. Born July 5, 1918 in Foley he was the son of Ira Alfred and Alberta S. Presley Masterson. He graduated from Winfield High School in 1936. A veteran of World War II, he served his country as a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps from July 8, 1941 until being honorably discharged in January of 1946. He was united in marriage on October 2, 1948 in Elsberry, MO to Erma Lee Carlock. This union was blessed with three children: Nola Kay, Marla Dean and Kenneth Eugene. Mr. Masterson was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, Ducks Unlimited and the Robert Fisher Jr. American Legion Post #410. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Alberta Masterson; one sister, Isabelle M. Masterson; one brother-in-law, J.M. "Pat" Penn; one daughter, Marla Dean Masterson and one grandson, Gabriel Allen Masterson. Survivors include his beloved wife of 59 years, Erma Lee Masterson of Foley; one daughter, Nola Johnsen and her husband, Ronald, of St. Charles, MO; one son, Kenneth Masterson and his wife, Sherry, of Foley; eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. He also leaves one sister, Clesta Penn of Elsberry; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2008 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield.
