Obituary of Elna Stone

Elna J. Stone Funeral services for Elna J. Stone of Elsberry, MO were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 18, 2003 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Richard Turnbull, pastor of Foley Baptist Church, officiated with burial in Elsberry City Cemetery in Elsberry. Serving as pallbearers were Joe Crenshaw, Jared Stone, Steven Hagemeier, Joel Conderman, D.J. King and Jack Crenshaw. Mrs. Stone, 90, died Friday morning, August 15, 2003 at Lincoln County Medical Center in Troy, MO. Born August 13, 1913 in Foley, MO, she was the daughter of Joel V. and Jessie Trilba McHugh Crenshaw. She was the Valedictorian of the 1930 graduating class of Elsberry High School. She attended Culver-Stockton College in Canton, MO. She taught at the Burr Oak School (a one-room school house) near Foley. She was united in marriage on September 28, 1940 in Shrewsbury, MO to John Thomas Stone, Sr. She worked for a number of years as a clerk at Trescott's Store in Elsberry. She was a longtime member of the Foley Baptist Church. Mrs. Stone was active in the Elsberry Senior Citizens. Besides her parents, Joel and Jessie Crenshaw, she was preceded in death by three brothers: John Nelson Crenshaw, J.V. Crenshaw, and Jesse Hugh Crenshaw; one sister, Dorothy Randazzo; her daughter, Suzanne Stone in 1967; and her beloved husband of 46 years, John Thomas Stone, Sr., who died January 30, 1987. Survivors include two sons: John Stone, Jr. and his wife, Gundi, of Kansas City, MO, and Edward H. Stone and his wife, Donna, of Foley, MO; three grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She also leaves one sister, Ruth Bell and her husband, Wilbert, of Winfield, MO; several in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday, August 17, 2003 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
