Carter-Ricks Funeral Homes Phone 573-898-2181 / Fax 573-898-3148 Newspaper Notice of Death Hurshel Eugene "Gene" Harrison, Sr. Funeral services for Hurshel Eugene "Gene" Harrison, Sr. of Eolia, MO were held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry, MO. Rev. Frank Welch of Peno Baptist Church in Bowling Green, MO officiated with burial in Elsberry City Cemetery near Elsberry. Serving as pallbearers were his grandsons: Richard York, Sean Morris, Robert Harrison, Scott Harrison, Ryan York, Daniel Harrison and Bruce Harrison. Honorary Pallbearers were his granddaughters: Kathy Welch, Rosetta Calvin, Chris Harrison, Rachel Chambers, Heather Miller and Becky Simpson. Mr. Harrison, 81, died Saturday, December 17, 2005 at St. Joseph Health Center, in St. Charles, MO. Born August 6, 1924 in San Jose, CA, he was the son of Hurshel Everett and Lola Helen (nee Arrend) Harrison. He served his country in the United States Army from April 17, 1943 until 1947. He served in WWII in the 101 First Airborne and 17th First Airborne Divisions. He was united in marriage on March 25, 1946 to Lorene Ruth Luckett. This union was blessed with five children: Richard Eugene, Hurshel Eugene, Jr., Danny Everett, Rose Mary and Dixie Marie. He worked for many years at Hercules in Louisiana, MO as a Boiler Operator Supervisor until retiring in 1983. In his younger years, Mr. Harrison was an avid hunter. Mr. Harrison was a member of the VFW Post #4539 in Eolia, MO and the Eolia Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hurshel and Lola Harrison; five brothers: Roy Harrison, Louis Harrison, Donald Harrison and two infant brothers; one grandson, Robert Duane York; and one great-granddaughter, Abriel York. Survivors include his beloved wife of 59 years, Lorene Harrison of Eolia, MO; three sons: Richard Eugene Harrison and his wife, Viola, of New London, MO, Hurshel Eugene Harrison, Jr. of Eolia, MO, and Danny Everett Harrison and his wife, Terri, of Eolia, MO; two daughters: Rose Mary York and her husband, Richard, of Elsberry, MO and Dixie Marie Lasater and her husband, Steve, of Eolia, MO; three brothers: Herbert Harrison and his wife, Ruth, of Brighton, IL, Nelson Harrison of Eolia, Ed Harrison of Louisiana, MO and Irvin Hoaglin of Alton, IL; three sisters: Lydia Hoaglin and her husband, James, of Louisiana, MO, June Niffen and her husband, Emmett, of Louisana, MO and Georgetta Wineland of Arkansas; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Visitation was held was held from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, December 19, 2005 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
