Obituary of John D. Allan

John Douglas Allan Funeral services for John Douglas Allan of Annada, MO were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 26, 2006 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry, MO. Rev. Gene Stewart of Annada, MO officiated with burial in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. Serving as pallbearers were Richey Craig, Tim Leahart, Jason Danker, Shane Earley, Andy Sluhan and Scott Mills. Honorary pallbearers were Austin Simmons, Nash Simmons, Lou Polack, Glen Schuman, Don Mitchell, Dave Padrolie, Joey Pott, Dale Sluhan, Alan Lagemann, Harold "Hack" White, Jr. and Jim Korman. Mr. Allan, 78, died Wednesday evening, June 21, 2006 at Maple Lodge Nursing Home in Louisiana, MO. Born February 14, 1928 in St. Louis, MO, he was the son of Gilbert "Red" Emil and Anna Marie Pieffer Allan. He graduated from Webster Groves High School. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from November 24, 1950 until being honorably discharged on August 23, 1952. While serving in the U.S. Army, he received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He was united in marriage on June 15, 1968 in Pittsfield, IL to Maxine White Earley. He worked for 28 years as head maintenance for Cannon National Wildlife Refuge in Annada, MO until retiring in 1994. Mr. Allan was a member of Ducks Unlimited, American Legion Post #349 in Clarksville, MO, VFW Post # 9064 in Elsberry, MO and the Disabled Veterans Association. He was also a member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Webster Groves, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Anna Marie Allan. Survivors include his beloved wife of 38 years, Maxine Allan of Annada, MO; two daughters: Sandy Craig of Arnold, MO and Cheri Boyd of Cedar Hill, MO; one step-son, Paul Earley and his wife, Joy, of Annada; one step-daughter, Nancy Reideler of Houston, TX; seventeen grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He also leaves two step-brothers: Charles Danker of St. Louis, MO and Andy Danker and his wife, Patti, of St. Louis; one brother-in-law, Harold G. White and his wife, Ann, of New London, MO; one special nephew, Jason Danker; several other nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends. Visitation was held was held from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, June 25, 2006 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
