Obituary of Edward John O'Brien

Edward John O'Brien A Memorial Mass for Edward John O'Brien of Elsberry, MO was held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 8, 2010 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elsberry. Msgr. James Hansan officiated with granddaughter, Kerry Klump providing music for the Mass. A private graveside service was held Saturday, February 6, 2010 at the O'Brien Family Cemetery near Elsberry. Serving as pallbearers were his six sons: Ed O'Brien, Mike O'Brien, Patrick O'Brien, Don O'Brien, Sean O'Brien and Brendan O'Brien. Mr. O'Brien, 97, passed away Friday night, February 5, 2010 at his home near Elsberry. Born July 4, 1912 in St. Louis County, MO, he was the son of Edward William and Maris Gertrude Moore O'Brien. He was united in marriage on June 6, 1950 at St. John & St. James Catholic Church in Ferguson, MO to Margaret Mary Curtin. This union was blessed with twelve children: Ellen, Patricia, Edward, Bridget, Maureen, Peggy, Michael, Patrick, Donald, Sean, Brendan and Siobhan. Farming for more than half a century, and making their home in the Elsberry community since the early 1950s, Mr. & Mrs. O'Brien have been members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elsberry for 56 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Maris O'Brien; three brothers: Jack O'Brien and his wife, Alma, Justin O'Brien and Donald O'Brien; three sisters: Mary Frances Lay and her husband, Merle, Alice Vollomino, and Flora Flinchpaugh and her husband, Jerry; his brother-in-law, Robert Wilkinson; and one son-in-law, Larry Lenk. Survivors include his beloved wife of almost 60 years, Margaret O'Brien of Elsberry; six sons: Edward O'Brien and his wife, Connie, of Clarksville, MO, Michael O'Brien of Elsberry, Patrick O'Brien and his wife, Christine, of Paynesville, MO, Donald O'Brien and his wife, Stella, of St. Paul, MO, Sean O'Brien and his wife, Brenda, of Elsberry, and Brendan O'Brien and his wife, Donna, of Elsberry; six daughters: Ellen Schramm and her husband, Leroy, of Wentzville, MO, Patricia Robertson and her husband, William, of Elsberry, Bridget Hummel and her husband, Chris, of Bowling Green, MO, Maureen Wommack and her husband, David, of Silex, MO, Peggy Carson and her husband, Ed, of Chesterfield, MO, and Siobhan Ogle and her husband, Michael, of Wildwood, MO; 38 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He also leaves one brother: Charles O'Brien and his wife, Nancy, of O'Fallon, MO; three sisters: Lenora Mason and her husband, William, of Florissant, MO, Madonna Gould and her husband, Alfred, of Chesterfield, and Patricia Wilkinson of Phoenix, AZ; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
