Carter-Ricks Funeral Homes Phone 573-898-2181 / Fax 573-898-3148 Newspaper Notice of Death Ralph William Mills, Sr. Funeral Services for Ralph William Mills, Sr. of Elsberry, MO will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 8, 2005 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Sammy Lorton, pastor of the Whiteside Holiness Church, officiated with burial in the Elsberry City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jerry Anthony, Rick Mills, Scott Mills, Ethan Gomberg, Harlan Scherrer and Allen Mills. Honorary Pallbearer was Dana Anthony. Mr. Mills, 84, died early Monday morning, September 5, 2005 at his home in Elsberry. Born May 11, 1921 in Elsberry, he was the son of the late Raymond Elmer and Sarah Edna Admire Mills. A 1939 graduate of Elsberry High School, he attended the University of Southern California for two years, majoring in electrical engineering. A veteran of World War II, he served his country in the U.S. Army from September 29, 1942 until he was honorably discharged on August 25, 1943. Mr. Mills was employed for a number of years as an ironworker in the St. Louis area. He was a member of the Iron Workers Local #396 in St. Louis and the American Legion Post #226 in Elsberry. Besides his parents, Raymond and Sarah Mills, he is preceded in death by two brothers: Ray Mills, Jr. in 1977 and Lavern "Dutch" Mills in 2000; and two sisters: Ruth Ann Mills, who died as a child, and Oneita Robinson. Survivors include two sons: Robert Dale Mills and his wife, Carol, of Elsberry; Ralph "Penny" Mills, Jr. and his wife, Judy, of Riverside, CA; one daughter, Vickie Gomberg and her husband, Frank, of Meshoppen, PA; several grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. He also leaves one brother, Glenn Mills of Elsberry; two sisters: Marcella Owens and her husband, John, of Paynesville, MO, and Mary Velma Robinson and her husband, Forrest, of Troy, MO; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2005 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
